Sat 11 May – D’Entrecasteaux Nat Park

Rain cleared overnight and the day was cloudy but fine.  We set off over the massive sand dunes toward Yeagerup Beach.  Scott had been to the long stretch of beach along this Nat Park boundary before, and he and Clive were hoping to do some fishing.  Over the dunes, we finally hit the beach to find that there was no beach.  Due to the freakish storms and high tides of the last week, it was essentially washed out, and the very rough seas were crashing in. No driving along this beach!

We headed inland again, and a longish drive round, one river crossing and one tree across the road (chainsaw needed) later, to Warren Beach on the same coastline.  Here we found some beach, but it was very rough, cold and squally.  Last time Scott was in this exact spot, it was 30 deg, sunny with no wind.  We had some fun retracing our steps back to our camp.  Stopping to pick up some firewood on the way back, Clive almost trod on a yellow-bellied black snake….  That’s the second one of these we’ve seen in a week.  They should be hibernating at this time of the year!

Had a great campfire and the rain held off, but overnight it poured.

The dunes were enormous.

No beach left!
